How Far English Teaching and Learning Has Come in Korea_Dr. David E.Shaffer(February 4. 2012)
Korea is a place of rapid change. Today’s high-speed train transportation and high-speed Internet connections have replaced the unpaved roads and abacuses of the 1970s. Many aspects of English Education in Korea have also changed rapidly, but others still closely resemble those of four decades earlier. This presentation will take a look at English teaching and learning in Korea forty years ago and compare them with those of today. It will discuss differences, and similarities, in the use of English, in English teachers, in English learners, in teaching methods, and in teaching facilities. It will also look at the problems faced the prospects for the future. All from the presenter’s unique perspective from 40 years of life in Korea.
